Pankration is an ancient Greek Martial Sport which developed as a combination of earlier styles of Wrestling and Boxing. Pankration is the most well documented fighting art of the pre-Christian period and was introduced into the Olympic Games in 648 BC. Unlike Greek Boxing and Wrestling, any technique or fighting method was considered acceptable with the exception of biting and eye-gouging, which were both forbidden.

The Pitak is a designated area in which practitioners of the Filipino art of Sikaran compete. Each Pitak measures approximately 25feet in diameter. Although modern Sikaran is largely practiced indoors, the arena in which contestants fight is still called a Pitak in recognition of the early Sikaran practitioners who actually fought and practiced amidst the rice paddies.
