The Chiburi is the rapid movement made with a sword used to expel blood and tissue from the blade prior to its sheathing.
Technically the Chiburi is only the first part of the cleaning action and would rapidly be followed by the wiping of the blade
with cloth. The Chiburi is also used in part to symbolically cleanse the blade in line with the Shinto philosophy on death
and the spiritual corruption it can bring.
